Mechanistic testing consistent with FDA

and EMEA guidelines

Mitosafe® is an in vitro, high throughput screening platform to identify mitochondrial toxicity of hits.

[JPG] 27814687It is focused on a mechanistic analysis of the mitochondrial functions. Mitochondrial toxicity is a leading cause of previously unrecognized drug-induced toxicity. The Mitosafe® platform is poised to improve early de-selection of hits impacting mitochondrial functions.

Why is Mitosafe® more pertinent than existing functional testing of the mitochondrial toxicity?

The mitochondrial analysis in human living cell is different from the mitochondrial analysis from purified mitochondria.

Because one of the role of the mitochondria is to modulate bioenergetics, redox state and ionic transport with respect to the cellular activity, it is particularly sensitive to its environment. Isolation of mitochondria during experimental procedures is thus leading to modifications of functional outcomes. [JPG] 5169112

How does it work?

Mitosafe® measures the mitochondrial function in the living human hepatocyte cell line HepG2. Outcome measures fully account for all mitochondrial functions and can be used in isolation or within integrative panels in which several outcomes are multiplexed in the same cells.
